MA child, adolescent and family therapy
Emma is a child and adolescent psychotherapist, specialising in working with young people from the age of 5 to 25. She has been working therapeutically with children, young people, individually and in groups, for over twenty years. She holds an MA in child, adolescent and family therapy. Her orientation is integrative which is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Emma is a member of the British association for counselling and psychotherapy
Emma is also a qualified drama therapist and registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (AS05955).
WORKING WITH CHILDREN
Children may communicate their thoughts and feelings more naturally through using their imagination and being creative than they may do through the use of words. Therefore the sessions that she offers are play based, and do not necessarily rely on talking. Emma see’s children in a room which has a variety of creative resources, all of which the child is welcome to use.
WORKING WITH ADOLESCENTS
When she works with teenagers, it may be that talking is the best way of communicating. However, she always has art and craft materials on offer. As this may give also them another way of communicating and/or help them relax in the session whilst talking.
Emma offers a warm, gentle, nurturing, confidential and non-judgemental space for your child or teenager. She helps them to develop resilience, self awareness and gives them the confidence to effect change

If you wish to make an appointment with Emma, please be advised that she asks to meet with the parent/s of the young person first. This enables her to learn about your child and gives parents an opportunity to share their concerns. The cost for this meeting is the same price as an individual session.
